DISCERNING THE GIFTS YOU’VE BEEN GIVEN

As a disciple of Jesus Christ, you have been both promised and given gift(s) from the Holy Spirit intended to be used by you to build others up within the community of faith and for broadening our collective witness to those who don’t know Jesus.  Apostle Paul calls Christ followers to “eagerly desire the gifts of the Spirit.” (1 Cor 14:1)

Means to help you discern your gifting(s):

1.     Rule of Dots: Are there things in your life that you sense are normal but not evident in others?  Those unusual things just might be a spiritual gift.

2.     Points of Frustration: Where are you perpetually frustrated, you might be gifted?  It will happen in every church you go to.  The tension very much may be how you were uniquely designed and gifted.  (I.e. if you are frustrated at the lack of encouragement, you might be gifted as an encourager).

3.     Discipline versus Gifting: The sense of ease is another way to discern whether it is by supernatural power to do something.  (I.e. We are all called to give, but some are able to give extraordinarily: we are all called to be merciful, but some have the gift of mercy).

4.     Which will you choose, the 99 or the 1? In other words, do you find yourself more concerned about the group or for an individual?  Some gifts are more geared toward the group while others are more for ministry with an individual.

5.     Joy: Is this something that brings joy to you, which so happens to be a fruit of the Spirit?  If the point of frustration above is also an activity that brings you joy, it just might be a Spiritual gift in your life.

6.     Spiritual Gift Assessment Tool: Feel free to take the following assessment as a tool helping further aid in discerning the gift(s) the Holy Spirit has given you. NOTE: When asked, “Do you attend Auburn Community Church?” select “No” and you will be prompted to enter which church you are a part of, please type: “The Way Woodstock”
